History of Training Center
When Asher was created in 2002, building a class of at least five students per session was a real challenge. Asher began with the Nurse Aide Program offering day classes only.  With little operational funds, it was very difficult to meet operation expenses. Through marketing and maintaining a quality program, Asher has become a preferred training provider for State and City Agencies, as well as public/private organizations seeking to train their consumers for employment in the medical field. Subsequently, Asher has successfully built a clientele of state, private, public, and self paying individuals.

Asher is certified by the Dept. of Health Professions Virginia Board of Nursing and the Department of Social Services. Asher currently offers four (4) programs, and maintains a year-round training schedule, which includes: Practical Nurse (first class scheduled to enroll in January 2011), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Personal/Direct Care Aide programs. We offer day and evening sessions for our Nurse Aide program, and evening classes for our Practical Nurse Training program.

Asher began training Nurse Aides and Personal/Direct Care Aides in June 2002; Medication Aides (32 hours course) in March 2004; Train-the-Trainer (trainers of Medication Aides) in August 2004; Medication Aides (68 hours course) in October of 2007. In 2009, Asher became a testing site for the State Board of Nurse Aides.  To-date, Asher has graduated 513 Nurse Aides, 48 Medication Aides (32 hours program), 31 Medication Aides (68 hours program), 68 Trainers of Medication Aides, and 18 Personal/Direct Care Aides. In January 25, 2011, Asher's Practical Nurse training program classes began.

Asher is listed as a training provider with state and local agencies such as: Virginia Employment Commission, Resource Workforce Center,  WIA, Department of Rehabilitative Services, Department of Social Services, Department of Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Goodwill Industries, and approved by the State for GI Benefits. Asher also partner with public/private owned facilities, and have trained staff members of Beth Sholom Gardens, Bon Secours Health Systems, VCU Health Systems, Johnston Willis Hospital, Lucy Corr Village, and individuals sponsored by Virginia Home for Boys, and William Byrd Community House (to name a few).
